Baby clinic & pediatric care
Regular health and development reviews for your baby or child are important. All recommended childhood vaccines are available at the clinic, including the chickenpox (varicella), and Mumps, Measles, and Rubella (MMR) vaccines. Our vaccination schedule is based on Tanzanian and Western vaccination schedules. Our pediatrician can be consulted on request.
Antenatal clinic
During your pregnancy you are in need of special care provided by skilled and attentive healthcare professionals. The non-invasive prenatal screenings test (NIPT) for Down’s syndrome is available. At IST Clinic, we believe in personalized antenatal care; this includes frequent checks, providing reliable pregnancy information, and taking enough time for you. You can book an appointment with Dr Belia or Dr Nina.
Gynecology
Our female doctors provide excellent gynecological services, with a focus on patient comfort, privacy, and good service. We offer the following tests: cervical cancer screening (PAP smear and if needed: HPV testing), high vaginal swabs, and Sexual Transmitted Disease (STD) tests. Abdominal or internal vaginal (gynecological) ultrasound examinations are done by our own doctors: Dr Belia and Dr Nina. In addition, we insert intra-uterine devices (IUD of your choice: hormonal or non-hormonal) and birth control implants (implanon). In case of an abnormal PAP smear, cryotherapy (“cold therapy”) is available. We also take cervical biopsies, to send for further investigation (pathology). Mental health
At the IST Clinic, we understand that it can be challenging to find good and professional mental health care. You can make an appointment with our clinic psychologist Allegra Kida, or our psychiatrist Dr Praxeda Swai via our reception. IST Clinic’s mental health team provides excellent diagnostics, and different types of therapy, inside a safe and comfortable environment with high standards (confidentiality is of utmost importance).
First Aid
Basic first aid such as wound suturing, wound care and simple fracture reduction and fixation can be done at the IST Clinic. In case of a trauma of a more serious nature, assistance is given in arranging for referral and medical evacuation.
Minor surgical procedures
At IST Clinic, we preform small surgical procedures. This includes removal of lipoma, sebaceous cysts, (part of) the toe nail, and more. We are able to take skin biopsies and send it elsewhere for further investigation (pathology). In addition, we apply liquid nitrogen on warts and sun damaged skin (actinic keratosis). Travel Clinic
If you are traveling often to different areas of Tanzania or different countries, you do not want to encounter any bad surprises. IST Clinic provides excellent medical advice, vaccinations, and medications per region and country. IST Clinic has been appointed by the Tanzanian Government as an official institute to administer Yellow Fever vaccines. In addition, if you need more information about high altitude sickness and its prevention or a diving examination, you can consult one of our doctors.
Vaccination
We have all recommended childhood vaccines, and there are many travel vaccinations available. IST Clinic has been appointed by the Tanzanian Government as an official institute to administer Yellow Fever vaccines. All recommended childhood vaccines are available at the clinic, including the chickenpox (varicella), Mumps, Measles, and Rubella (MMR) and Human Papillomavirus (HPV) vaccines. You will receive an official yellow fever vaccination booklet from the Tanzanian Government. For Covid-19 vaccinations, we refer to the Ministry of Health website.
Medical examinations
Medical examinations
At IST Clinic, special medical examinations can be done. This includes specific employment health assessments, for instance for mining, oil, and gas companies. Our doctors also do diving examinations. In addition, you can visit IST Clinic for a general health check-up, we have several packages available. Please contact us for more information.

Laboratory
IST Clinic has a well-equipped, reliable laboratory. We provide a fast service, as most tests can be done in our own lab. Often, taking a blood sample from the finger is enough. Our doctors are glad to explain the lab results to you in person, over the phone or by email. Commonly performed tests are malaria, glucose, thyroid hormones, cholesterol levels, liver and kidney function tests. Please contact us to see which are available.
Ear syringing
Blocked hearing is commonly caused by too much wax in the ears. Never use a cotton swab to clean your ears, as it can make it worse. At IST Clinic, we use an electric ear irrigation machine to safely and easily clean your ears. You can make an appointment via our reception.
Diagnostic
Ultrasound examinations obstetric & gynecological
An abdominal or internal vaginal (gynecological) ultrasound is a simple and painless way to examine the uterus, ovaries, and tubes. This examination is done by our own doctors: Dr Belia and Dr Nina. In addition, both doctors perform the following pregnancy (obstetric) ultrasounds: early pregnancy scan, 12 week scan, and growth/baby wellbeing scan.
Hearing test
With the hearing test, also called audiometry, we assess your ability to hear sounds varying in intensity and tone.
Electrocardiogram
The electrocardiogram (ECG) is a quick and simple way to measure the electrical activity of your heartbeat. It is used to help detect several heart conditions, including heart attacks.
Vision test
Vision testing includes assessing far and nearby sight, as well as color vision. This service can be used for renewing your drivers license.
Spirometry
Spirometry measures how much are you can breathe in and out, and at what rate. It is a standard test to assess how well your lungs function.
