I did well at high school and was basically told University was my best option, trades were for the cabbage kids. In some places the finish was smooth as glass, in others there was a heavy broom texture, and in a few sections, no finish at all. Besides the sizes of the openings always being different, some openings require a full semi-circular arch, while others require just a segmental arch. Read the full article…, When I bought my little house in southern Oregon, I knew I’d be removing the existing concrete patio and the funky patio cover. The short one is: hard work, luck, and opportunity. My father was a carpenter (retired) and I’ve always enjoyed working with him at home and on other projects. But the thing that bugs me is that everything always has to be ‘just so’ with him. It is also subject to many onerous contemporary code requirements, and requires the highest level of finish carpentry in the house. I guess what I’m saying is don’t feel like this decision will set the scene for your entire life... you could do it for 5 years, travel the world with your skills and do something else if you want. This is about one of those jobs where you have to stretch your skills, learn techniques you never imagined using, and make something that’s truly memorable. You learn an invaluable skill that you will use your entire life to make money, and build stuff for yourself. Weather will always play a factor so be ready to buy good boots and outdoor gear.
